Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland in Finland. Situated right on the Arctic Circle, it makes the town a gateway to the Arctic. In the Arctic, there are bigger cities than Rovaniemi, but none in direct proximity to the Arctic Circle. In Rovaniemi, the Arctic Circle runs through the Santa Claus Village, eight kilometers to the north of the competition center.

The Arctic Circle marks the southernmost latitude where the sun can stay continuously above the horizon for 24 hours – this phenomenon is known as the Midnight Sun or as the nightless night or polar day. It can be seen in Rovaniemi from 6th June to 7th July, where the nights are bright with sunlight throughout the summer.

The Midnight Sun means there’s 24 hours a day for activities like jet skiing, horseback riding, kayaking or canoeing, hiking, river cruises, visiting husky and reindeer farms and a whole lot more – anything you can do during the day, you can do in the night.

Rovaniemi area also provides lot of possibilities for accommodations, restaurants and leisure time.
